How To Apply For A Refugee Status While In Canada

Here are the steps on how to apply for the refugee status while in Canada:

1.Where can you apply?

There are 2 ways on how you can apply for the refugee status while you are in Canada, and the first one is from a port of entry.

Yes, you can apply for refugee status from an airport, land border, or seaport in Canada.

An immigration officer is going to decide if your claim is eligible to be referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

If the immigration officer says your claim is eligible, you will be referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

You will be given a document and will have 15 days to fill up all the forms in the application package and submit them to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada.

The second one  is by making a claim at the Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada offices.

If you decide to apply at an Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, make sure you bring your filled up forms that are included in the application package.

You are not going to be scheduled for an interview with an immigration officer until you have filled up all the forms.
