Coronavirus Crisis: As America Bans Immigrants, Canada Will Still Welcome Them

The United States of America has placed a temporary ban on immigration as their latest precautionary step in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, signed an Executive Order that took effect on April 23, 2020.
The order will suspend the processing of permanent resident applications that are made by those people that are outside the country for 2 months or 60 days.
An order does have some exemptions.
The ban that president Trump signed will not apply to health care professionals or researchers that are seeking to enter the United States of America for immigrants that want to help the country in combating the virus.
Since signing the order, Trump has been criticized.
Many people say that the law has nothing to do with stopping the fast-spreading coronavirus, but instead, it is more related to his own political agenda, which will be showcased in the upcoming presidential elections.
Cristobal Ramón, a senior policy analyst with the Bipartisan Policy Centre, believes that the move is political, given the fact that the United States of America is already processing fewer applications as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

During an interview with the CIC News, Cristobal Ramón said:
“He is trying to come up with a narrative that allows him to assert control over the way people are perceiving his response to COVID-19 and I think what we’re seeing is that there is no coherent narrative. He is trying to find whatever works in order to stave off criticism.”
Canada on the other hand, will not be implementing any rules that are similar to the ones President Trump signed.
Despite the fact that the pandemic has wrecked the global economy, Canada still recognizes that Immigration Supports the labour market and is focusing on the economic growth of the country.
