Former Immigration Minister Of Canada Wants To Reopen Canada’s Borders


Jason Kenney, the Premier of Alberta, is one of the ministers in Canada that are calling for the reopening of the country’s borders.
Kenney, who is former immigration the minister is one of the many prominent voices calling on the Canadian government to identify safe solutions on how Canada is capable of lifting the travel restrictions it has placed due to this coronavirus pandemic.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said that lifting the travel restrictions of Canada is extremely important so it could help the country recover economically.
On March 18, 2020, until today, Canada has had travel restrictions in place to contain the fast-spreading coronavirus.
As of writing this article, Canada has travel restrictions until June 30, 2020.
Kenney is not saying that the country should reopen their borders now, instead, he wants the federal government and provinces to develop a plan that will help in facilitating the resumption of domestic and international travel as fast as they can.


Who is Jason Kenney?
Jason Kenney was the longest-serving immigration minister in the history of Canada.
He led the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) between 2008 and 2013.
Kenney was one of the most influential immigration ministers Canada has seen as he oversaw sweeping reforms and modernizations to the immigration of Canada’s immigration system.
He is also the person that laid the ground work for the eventual launch of the Express Entry system of the country.
In 2019, Kenney was elected as the Premier of Alberta, which is the fourth largest province by population and a province that has seen it's immigrant intake rise significantly over the past 2 decades due in large part of the economic growth, which is brought by its gas and oil industry.
