Visitors Are Now Allowed To Apply For Work Permits From Within Canada

   International visitors that are currently in Canada with a job offer are now allowed to apply for a work permit without having to leave the country.

The new immigration policy will go into effect right away.

The news was announced by a media release that was being carried out by the IRCC (Immigration Refugees, and Citizenship Canada).

The new policy will benefit temporary residents that are already in Canada with a job offer. However, it does not apply anyone arriving in Canada as a visitor after August 24, 2020.

Visitors that meet the eligibility criteria are able to apply to the new temporary immigration policy. Such includes:

1.       Super Visa holders

2.       Business visitors

3.       People that got into the country through a Global Skills Strategy work permit exemption

The new policy will benefit Canadian employers that are hiring foreign workers.



Marco Mendicino, the immigration minister of Canada, said:

We have heard from employers who continue to face challenges recruiting and hiring the workers they need during the pandemic. This exemption from the normal temporary work permit requirements is aimed at removing barriers to create a more agile workforce that leverages visitors with the skills and experience to accelerate our economic recovery.

Work permit applicants can contact the IRCC through their web form so they can apply for work authorization while they wait on the new permits.
