Canada Breaks All-Time Immigration Record By Landing Over 400,000 Immigrants In 2021

Canada has brought in more than 400,000 new permanent residents in 2021.

According to a report by CICNews, Canada managed to land more than 400,000 new permanent residents just for the second time since it was founded as a country in 1867.

The report has also been confirmed by the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada).

Not only that, but the IRCC has also confirmed that Canada has broken its all-time record for permanent residency landings in a single year.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Canada had a goal of welcoming around 341,000 new immigrants in 2020 but ended up landing only 184,000 because of lockdown restrictions.

Achieving the 401,000 newcomer target was one of the top priorities of the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) this year.

Talking about the goal, Sean Fraser, the immigration minister of Canada, said:

“Last year, we set an ambitious goal. Today, we achieved it. This is a historic moment for our country, as we welcome the highest number of newcomers in a century. I want to thank all the employees in my department, especially our Operations Sector, who made this possible. Canada is built on immigration, and we will continue to safely welcome the immigrants that Canada needs to succeed. I can’t wait to see the incredible contributions that our 401,000 new neighbors make in communities across the country.”

For the upcoming year, Canada is planning to welcome around 411,000 immigrants and around 421,000 immigrants in 2023.

The new Immigration Levels Plan will be announced by Minister Fraser by February 10, 2022.

It is believed that the new Immigration Levels Plan will have higher intake numbers.
